Looking back

Since the day I entered this Universe, I have been wondering about the reason for being here.

What the Kha'ak Hive was told, was that the Hive was banned. Now, I am not so sure anymore.
Resources in the Kha'ak sectors are diminishing. Our Nividium is nearly gone. And when our future was dark, we were invaded by the Paranid, who stole our precious resources. Any race would retaliate.

But now that our resources are nearly gone, the Kha'ak have no choice but to find another space to live. We used up most of the remainder of the Nividium to develop and build the technology to make this possible, and now are desperately searching for a place to live. But we are fought all the way by every race in this universe.

From what I have learned while being here, is that the Paranid invaded our territory, but the other races were not aware of this. We retaliated, and this must have been seen by all as an aggressive act towards this universe. Fear of the unknown must have made that easy. Now, all races are fighting us, on sight.

We tried to contact the other races, but to no avail. We were misunderstood, murdered and hunted. They do not speak our language, and it cannot be handled by their translators.

Understand the way a Hive operates… The Queen is the leader. We have evolved in a very specialized way. Our Queen leads, and is the Mind and Consiousness of the Hive. The rest of the Kha'ak are what you would call 'cells' or 'limbs'. We get our orders and we do. In such a state, our minds are not evolved enough to understand the reasons why nor to question our orders.

Whenever a Queen dies, a new Queen rises and takes over the responsibilities. It takes time for her to adapt and grow, but eventually the chaos in the Hive subsides and order is restored. During that time, other possible Queens will try to rise too, and it is a time of uncertainty and war. This has a function. It roots out the weak and the surviving Hive members need less resources. Also the hierarchy is easier to restore, controlled by the new Queen.

When our Hive-Queen died, a similar thing happened. But there were no other Queens to take control. As the Queen's control fell away the strongest remaining Kha'ak tried to take control. But with a mind far less developed than that of the usual Queens-to-be, it was too much. That, and because the battle added so much to the confusion, made it simply impossible for any Kha'ak to restore order at that time. Only when most of the Hive had already died, some kind of order could be restored.

By that time, so many Kha'ak had been slaughtered, that the battle was lost. I was the last Warrior, with just a few of Kha'ak drones. And I made it out of there... I never understood why I survived. Now I believe I know the reason...

Bala Gi's Research

Date: 764-11-06 08:04

Finally, all the sectors have been explored. In the meantime, I also managed to take on more XI missions. My next goal is to get enough credits to buy me a Split Python. I already got one message on the BBS about an Argon ship 'Pandora' that discovered some ship extensions in Black Hole Sun. I intend to pick these up with the Python.

But first... Get the credits!

And a surprise. A new group contacted me. The Bala Gi's Research Center. They asked for my help in delivering some documents to the Paranid and the Split main sectors. As a reward, they told that it might earn me a Headquarters of a type that has never before been build! I do not know if they are bluffing, but I'll take the challenge. If they lie, I will kill them.

I delivered the documents. Then, they contacted me again. I had more to do. What a surprise. After several missions, I recieved a very interesting new mission. Find a prototype Yacht that belonged to the Paranid Pontifex Paranidius. I found it and am now towing it to the shipyard in Grand Exchange.

Xenon Mission

Date: 764-11-05 3:15

With my upgraded Dragon, I found another Xenon Mission. This time in Eighteen Billion. The call was just like the other time, only now from the Teladi Military. I accepted (of course) and after a while the attack began... Just a small wing of 4 M's. And just when I thought: "Is this all they bring?", a Xenon Carrier jumped in and started unloading waves of M4's and M3's. Now that was more like it!

I tried to bring down the Xenon M1, but each time it jumped out before I could do serious damage. I decide to concentrate on the fighters first. After 45 mizura's, the J finally stopped jumping out. Must have run out of energy cells. I immidiatey started my attack. Fortunately, the kill was mine, as the Teladi Military was engaged in dogfight with the remaining fighters.

After destroying the J, I helped to eliminate the remaining Xenon Force. The reward that I then received was stunning! Over 12 million credits! And a nice bonus as well. When the J exploded, it left 8 Gamma PPC's floating in space. I called in my Dolphin Super Freighter to collect them and sold them in Ianamus Zura. That earned me another six million.

That mission and a few more assassination missions later, my bank account was over 27 million credits. This will come in real handy when I am upgrading my Dragon's speed to the max! And sure enough, a short time after, another engineer upgraded it to a speed of 212.

Now, I am concentrating on exploring the universe. I have one Universe Trader (the Dolphin SF) and one in training in Profit Share. This one is at level 10, which is just too low for successful Universe Trading. It needs to be a bit higher. I also have three more Sector Traders, but have not found a suitable training ground for them. One is in Antigone Memorial and is doing fine (level 7). Another one is in The Wall, which is absolutely horrible for training. Still level 1. I will need to find it a better location. The last one, I sent to Power Circle. I find that sectors with multiple Power Plants and other factories are good places to start. Power Circle looks promising.
